FAQ

Ask us anything.

The honest answers, including the uncomfortable ones.

How does TxtPlease connect to my WhatsApp?

Through WhatsApp's multi-device linking, the same mechanism WhatsApp Web and the desktop apps use. You scan a QR code once and TxtPlease joins as a linked device. No app to install, nothing changes for the people who message you.

Is TxtPlease allowed? Is it against WhatsApp's terms?

TxtPlease is an independent service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by WhatsApp or Meta. It connects via multi-device linking rather than the Business API. Automating a personal account sits in a gray zone of WhatsApp's terms, so cautious users run TxtPlease on a dedicated second number. We're transparent about this because we'd rather you know than find out.

What happens to my audio?

A voice note is downloaded, transcribed, and the audio is deleted from our systems within seconds. Transcripts are delivered into your chat and not stored on our servers. Nothing is used to train AI models.

Which languages are supported?

More than 90, via Whisper-class speech recognition: all major European languages including German, plus Arabic, Hindi, Turkish and many more. Mixed-language messages (say, Denglisch) work too, which is something WhatsApp's built-in transcripts can't do.

Doesn't WhatsApp transcribe voice messages already?

It can, manually: you long-press each message and tap Transcribe, if your language is supported on your device. Android supports only around five languages (no German as of 2026), WhatsApp Business has no transcripts at all, and nothing happens automatically. TxtPlease transcribes every incoming voice note on its own and replies with the text.

Does the sender know their message was transcribed?

You decide. Transcripts can land in the same chat (visible to the sender) or in a private thread only you see. Transcription itself sends no notification to anyone.

Do transcripts trigger blue ticks or the played receipt?

Reading a transcript doesn't play the audio, so the blue microphone (played receipt) is never triggered. Normal read receipts for opening a chat follow your existing settings.

Does it work in group chats?

Yes. Group voice notes are transcribed like any other. On the Pro plan you can set per-chat rules, for example mute transcription in noisy groups or only transcribe specific contacts.

Does it work with WhatsApp Business?

Yes, for accounts that support multi-device linking. That's notable because WhatsApp's own transcription feature is missing from the Business app entirely.

What does it cost?

Planned pricing: Free with 30 transcription minutes per month, Personal at €5.99/month with 300 minutes, and Pro at €11.99/month with 1,500 minutes plus AI summaries and per-chat rules. Waitlist members get a founding-member deal at launch.

Can I self-host it?

Self-hosting documentation is planned as part of the Pro plan. The underlying service is built to be self-hostable for people who want full control over their data.

When does TxtPlease launch?

We're onboarding from the waitlist in small batches to keep quality high. Join the waitlist and you'll get your invite, plus the founding-member price, as early as possible.
